What is Medical Coding?
Medical coding is the process of taking the documentation in the medical record and translating all the diagnoses and procedures into alpha-numeric codes. These codes in turn can be grouped and submitted to insurance companies for financial reimbursement. Insurance companies, including CMS use this data for epidemiology, public health data analysis and scientific study. Medical Coders are able to use their training along with experience to perform direct application coding, CAC coding, Reimbursement analysis, Quality measures, HCC coding, Coding Education and Compliance Auditing.
